Father Burke,I have a couple of questions for you on Marriage Banns. Before I married both myself and my wife to be had to have the Banns read in our respective Churches. My great uncle Edward James Kirby was from Carrigtwohill. He joined the Royal Navy and was a gunner. In 1901, he was stationed in Kent England and met his future wife who was from Sheerness Kent. I.m sure the banns would be read in her Church-would they have had to be read also in St. Mary's Church in Carrigtwohill? In case of impediments are Banns kept on Records? Thank you.John E. Kirby
Records of banns are not usually kept.
